Four Holmdel Officers Honored For Roles In Carjacking Arrest

Jul 30, 2023

HOLMDEL, NJ — Four Holmdel police officers were honored recently by the Monmouth and Ocean County Intelligence Bureau for their actions in arresting a man later charged with carjacking and other charges, Police Chief Frank Allocco announced.

The awards were presented at the 68th Annual MOCIB annual awards event on May 3.

The officers were recognized for their efforts in apprehending the man who was ultimately charged with several serious offenses, including carjacking and theft this past October, Allocco said in congratulating the officers.

Honored were:

After an incident on Oct. 26 2022, the man was charged with carjacking a commercial van from Bayshore Medical Center and becoming involved in an accident on Route 35 in Middletown, then taking an SUV and becoming involved in a crash with a garbage truck in which the stolen car then burst into flames.

Ultimately the man, armed with wire-cutting pliers, was walking on Route 35 in Holmdel, brandishing the tool. Police had to engage him and successfully stopped him.

The charges against the defendant are pending, the prosecutor's office confirmed Tuesday.
