A 37-year-old man faces multiple charges after what was originally reported as a stabbing spree injured multiple members of a household in Grandview, Missouri.

Court documents say the suspect struck his victims multiple times with a hammer.

The Jackson County Prosecutor's Office has charged 37-year-old Collins I. Milimu with three counts of first-degree domestic assault, three counts of armed criminal action, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Grandview Police got a call just before 10:30 p.m. Sunday from a home near Highgrove Road and Manchester Avenue about an assault. When they got to the house, officers saw a suspect trying to run away. Police were able to apprehend that person, later identified as Milimu, after a short foot chase.

Charging documents in the case say a person, identified in records as Victim 3, ran from his home in the 13000 block of Manchester Avenue to a neighbor's house, clearly in need of help. Witnesses said Victim 3 had an obvious injury to the left side of his head, and the person who dialed 911 said they couldn't understand the victim due to the extent of his injuries.

After taking Milimu into custody, officers were notified of another 911 call, this time coming from inside the home Victim 3 shared with Milimu. Dispatchers noted the phone call was left open, and authorities could hear someone breathing heavily and asking for help and an ambulance.

Police forced their way into the home and found three additional victims.

Victim 1, a man, and Victim 2, a woman, were rushed to an area hospital with critical injuries.

Two witnesses, both believed to be children, were also found in the home unharmed.

Investigators noted a large amount of blood in the home as they were examining the scene. Blood was found on the stairs from the main-level entry of the house, in the kitchen, hallway and bathroom. Documents state investigators tracking blood on the floors, cabinets, and walls in the kitchen found a baseball bat and a knife. In the dining room next to the kitchen, authorities found a small hammer with a claw. The hammer was covered in blood.

Police also noted a door going down to a basement bedroom, believed to belong to Victim 3, appeared to be heavily damaged. Investigators believed that the damage was consistent with a claw hammer.

Milimu spoke with police after he was taken into custody and said he believed he had been disrespected by Victims 1, 2 and 3. That night he said he saw Victim 1 and 2 asleep on the couch, saw a "hammer there," got overwhelmed, and admitted to striking both of them in the head once with the hammer. Milimu told authorities Victim 3 heard a noise and came out of the basement; that's when Milimu struck Victim 3 as well.

Milimu then said Victim 1 began to fight back. Documents show he told investigators the fight moved from the living room into the kitchen. He told police he couldn't remember if he still had the hammer in his hand, but when asked what part of the hammer he used, Milimu said he "started out with the flat part."

Milimu continued to tell investigators he believed the three victims had been conspiring against him and that he had a history of seizures and blamed the victims for his condition. He told police he needed "my sense of revenge" in the attacks.

Investigators said in the probable cause documents that Victim 1 remains in a local ICU and is in and out of consciousness. Doctors believe his injuries were caused by the claw side of the hammer. At one point, investigators said Victim 1 was able to identify Milimu as the person who struck him.

Victim 2 also remains in an area ICU on a ventilator. Doctors believe she will require a steel plate on one side of her head, and she will likely be paralyzed in some capacity on one side of her body after the attack.

Victim 3 suffered a traumatic brain injury and a depressed skull fracture that required emergency neurosurgery. After recovery, Victim 3 was able to identify Milimu as the suspect. He told investigators he was downstairs playing video games when he heard noises upstairs. He said when he saw a large amount of blood upstairs, he ran back down the stairs and locked his door, only for Milimu to break it down and attack him. Victim 3 said he thought the hammer remained stuck in his head and that as he tried to escape the home, Milimu struck him several more times with a baseball bat.

Police note a fourth victim, identified as a juvenile under the age of 17, was also treated at an area hospital for a large frontal scalp hematoma. That individual was treated and released.

Prosecutors have recommended Milimu be held in custody in an area jail without bond.
